I'm Adam and I am 29 (but only just I hate to admit) and until 2008 I grew up and lived on the West coast of Australia in Perth. My life was spent relaxing, surfing and pretty much thinking the rest of the world was a far away and an untouchable place. My working life was spent mainly specializing in timber flooring, deckings and designing and installing solid timber staircases. However, in 2008 an English girl named Kate made me make some of the biggest life changing decisions that made me feel Perth was too small for my ideas and this year I decided to relocate to the English countryside to not only be with her but bring my many ideas to life.
Moving to the country...... gonna eat a lot of peaches.
Showcase Carpentry is a bespoke furniture venture. I have in mind ideas from tables to garden furniture. Being in the English countryside has inspired me to use different timbers, incorporate patterns and use different traditional and japanese joinery methods in my creations.
The processes I take from the start of an idea to the finished product always vary. Notebooks, pictures, the outdoors... all these little things contribute towards the input to making a piece of furniture. At times I'm asked to create something that is simple and practical, other times I'm asked to make a bespoke piece of furniture that requires delicate skills and a lot of time to perfect.
Since being in England, I have experienced a number of different places that inspire me. Starting in London, which meant dealing with a completely different culture and the fast paced city life to relaxing holidays in France spent on a dutch barge cruising the french canals. I've frequently found myself daydreaming and getting lost in my own mind at the ideas that come to me.
Lines and symmetry.....
My inspiration and ideas come from many things. Everyday life, scenery and things you won't usually take notice of day to day all influence my ideas. Being a keen artist really helps me to develop and make a record of my plans.
Over the next coming weeks I will be developing more and more ideas to create and am off to Scotland which I am hoping will provide me with a whole lot more inspiration.
